For schools new to the Literary Curriculum approach
The Launching The Literary Curriculum INSET day supports teachers with the pedagogies involved in planning using our book-based approach. The INSET takes staff through the ‘teach through a text’ approach, from making the thematic links and using the engaging starting points, through to examples of extended outcomes. During the INSET, consultants use shared and modelled writing to demonstrate and reinforce the application for grammar, spelling and literary language in writing throughout.
We share examples of schools and children’s work where the approach has been successful and there is an opportunity to look at the range of texts on offer.

The Embedding The Literary Curriculum INSET day supports teachers with building on the book-based approach. The INSET looks specifically at opportunities to personalise the planning sequences for support and challenge, whilst ensuring pitch and pace is still appropriate.
We bring books and handouts according to numbers agreed with the school.

The Launching the Literary Leaves INSET demonstrates how to effectively use whole books and poems, rather than extracts, to structure engaging reading sessions that support children to become critical readers. Using a whole book or poem, the consultant will model a sequence of reading facilitating and exploring activities to support children to apply all the skills required in the National Curriculum and the content domains.

The Spelling Seeds INSET supports teachers to plan spelling activities into their existing planning sequences by using it as a tool to develop vocabulary and apply spelling rules. The training looks at how children learn how to spell and identifies how to combat some of the difficulties children have with spelling. The training also looks closely at the programme of study from the English curriculum and covers the essential subject knowledge and progression of Appendix 1.
