One Day Online Course
A one-day year specific course covering practical strategies for using high quality children's literature as the primary approach to the teaching of English
This course will –
- Identify how a book-based approach engages children as writers and immerses them in a literary world
- Share examples of quality texts and well planned sequences used succesfully in early years settings
- Explore the progression of skills within the EYFS framework* will be reflecting the changes to the updated Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Statutory Framework (setting the standards for learning, development and care for children from birth to five) for 2021.
Content
- An in-depth look at one text and a sequence of work and an exploration of other age-appropriate books
- We will reflect upon the new focus in the framework on early language and extending vocabulary, and give share examples on how to embed and develop vocabulary skills
- We will focus on continuous provision and show how to use shared writing to support this
- We will look at the importance of audience and purpose and explore the importance of book-making
Participants will receive –
- A detailed planning sequence that support the teaching of purposeful writing
- All training resources electronically
All schools will receive a free place for their Literacy Leads on our online English subject leaders meeting.
