"The course has promoted thinking about links between books and also the message in the text."
Ian, St John's and St Clement's, Autumn 2023
A whole-day year-specific course covering practical strategies for using high-quality children's literature as the primary approach to the teaching of English. This course is ideal for people who are new to Literacy Tree or changing to another year group.
The course covers the pedagogy and the approach but one section of the day exemplifies this using a focus text and goes through each aspect. The book we will be exemplifying with is The Ever Changing Earth by Grahame Baker-Smith. We will be looking at this online but if you prefer to have a physical copy, please purchase in advance.
"I really enjoyed when we were going through how books have inspired us, and the whole school approach. The parts that were most useful were how to adapt, how to complete shared writing, how to pick out the language you want children to use, create glossaries, how to use working walls, embed grammar through the text, instant publishing, creating hooks, the 'tumbling out' falling out of language and questions."
Fran, St Thomas' Church Of England Primary School, Autumn 2023
"I particularly liked having a text as an example to show sequencing and modelling, and having the author on was a treat. Both consultants were excellent trainers and very engaging."
Rachel, Tubbenden Primary School, Autumn 2023
"It was great having the author come in to have a chat about his book. Learning how to use Literacy Tree and the different resources. Going through the lesson and having a visual representation of how to teach the lesson, and the importance of celebrating children's work."
Eve, Prendergast Vale Primary, Autumn 2023
All our courses support the Reading for Pleasure agenda and strengthen teacher’s knowledge of how to use text in the classroom
