One Day Online Course

A whole-day year-specific course covering practical strategies for using high-quality children's literature as the primary approach to the teaching of English. This course is ideal for people who are new to Literacy Tree or changing to another year group.

This course will –

Identify how a book-based approach engages children as writers and immerses them in a literary world
Share examples of quality texts and well planned sequences used successfully in early years settings
Explore the progression of skills within the EYFS framework
Walk through the website and explore what a membership will look like

Exemplification Text

The course covers the pedagogy and the approach but one section of the day exemplifies this using a focus text and goes through each aspect. The book we will be exemplifying with is Ning and the Night Spirits by Adriena Fong. We will be looking at this online but if you prefer to have a physical copy, please purchase in advance.

Content

An in-depth look at one text, a Writing Root, and an exploration of other age-appropriate books as recommended by Literacy Tree
We will reflect upon the focus in the framework on early language and extending vocabulary, and give share examples on how to embed and develop vocabulary skills
We will focus on continuous provision and show how to use shared writing to support this
We will look at the importance of audience and purpose and explore the importance of book-making

A detailed Writing Root that support the teaching of purposeful writing
