"Following the training, I have a better understanding of how to use the planning effectively. I'm inspired to teach the lesson more confidently."
Olivia, St John’s & St Clement’s C of E Primary School, Autumn 2023
A whole-day year-specific course covering practical strategies for using high-quality children's literature as the primary approach to the teaching of English. This course is ideal for people who are new to Literacy Tree or changing to another year group.
The course covers the pedagogy and the approach but one section of the day exemplifies this using a focus text and goes through each aspect. The book we will be exemplifying with is Leila and the Blue Fox by Kiran Millwood Hargrave. We will be looking at this online but if you prefer to have a physical copy, please purchase in advance.
"I particularly enjoyed the run-through of how to approach a 'Writing Root' document, the adaptations and uses of resources, definitions of terminology, and model ways of using manipulatives such as 'sentence strips'.
Hearing from the author and illustrator was brilliant - really re-ignites the sense of wonder of books and the purpose of teaching through a text."
Mary, Greengate Lane Academy, Autumn 2023
"I appreciated discussing the text and understanding how to use the teaching tools effectively."
Laura, Wessex Primary School, Autumn 2023
"I valued going through sessions and talking about the activities, and how to extend and support."
Adele, Woodlea Primary School, Autumn 2023
