Teaching Through Text using the Literary Curriculum

A half-day course for new teachers in a Literary Curriculum school or for English/Literacy leads looking to take this approach on in their school. Our 'Teach through a Text' approach to the teaching of primary English will be actively demonstrated.

Course Timings –

This course will run from 1:30pm until 4pm (GMT)

This course will cover –

How the Literary Curriculum provides coverage of the contents of the entire programme of study for English, including spelling and reading comprehension
An overview of the books used within the Literary Curriculum and what makes a quality teaching text
How we create meaningful contexts for writing using children's literature by embedding all elements as part of the 'Teach Through a Text' approach

We will do this by –

Giving delegates the opportunity to look at children's writing outcomes where the Literary Curriculum has been used
Go through a text and planning sequence, modelling how the 'Teach through a Text' approach, can be used effectively within the teaching of English
Look briefly at the resources available to teachers, including Literary Leaves, RATE and Spelling Seeds
