This is an 18 session Literary Leaf for The Explorer by Katherine Rundell in which children infer about character's actions and events as well as retrieving information from the text and exploring the langauge choices made by the author.
We chose this book for a literary leaf as it felt like a literary classic when immediately reading it. It has a timeless feel with an age-old theme of unusual friendships taking place when faced with adversity.
A group of children find themselves thrown together in a survival situation after their plane crashes in the Amazon. They develop routines and gradually adjust to their new life when they realise they are not alone and that someone was exploring before them.
