Main Outcomes:
Letter in role, shared poem, information poster, discussion
Overview and Outcomes:
This is a two-week sequence for The Tear Thief by Carol Ann Duffy. After exploring the idea that emotions could be matched with jewels, the children read the text ‘The Tear Thief’ and then explore the imagery within. They create a shared-poem, explore different verb forms used in the text and then write a letter in role using the present perfect form. Following this, the children are presented with a range of scenarios that may cause people to cry. They explore the idea that tears shed for different reasons may/may not be more important than each other. They then receive a letter from The Tear Thief asking for help. The children explore using a range of different grammatical forms of sentence to create a information/ persuasive poster before writing a letter to another year group explaining why different tears are more precious than others.
