Embedding Reading Comprehension in Years 3 & 4

A two-day course where practical strategies for teaching reading comprehension will be explored.

This two-day course will –

Ensure teachers understand the progression of reading comprehension within National Curriculum 2014
Explore how reading journals can be used to show understanding of text
Provide teachers with one high quality children’s book and poem
Identify a sequence for teaching readingwhich uses pre-read activities and follow up tasks to maximise time spent on comprehension and understanding of a whole text
Explore activities to support Reading for Research and Reading for Pleasure

Participants will receive –

High quality children’s books and a pack of suggested activities for reading journals, follow-up and pre-read tasks, plus record keeping linked to the curriculum
Teaching sequences that support the teaching of Reading in a Literacy Tree tote bag
All training resources electronically
Lunch and refreshments
