Three Day Course
A three-day course where practical strategies for teaching through text in Reception will be explored.
Please book with confidence that all our courses will run within the guidelines of any recommendations made regarding social distancing at this point in time. We are planning to run these courses in the Literacy Tree training space which is cleaned thoroughly on a daily basis. If it is not possible to run these courses in the normal manner, we will be taking them online and will ensure any training resources, including books, are available for delegates to pick up from the space at a distance before the course takes place. Where it is not possible for a delegate to pick up their books and resources we will try our best to arrange a delivery.
This course will:
- Identify how the embedded approach immerses and engages children as writers
- Explore in detail the progression of skills within the EYFS Framework
- Model how teaching through a text contributes to a range of purposeful writing opportunities
- Demonstrate how phonics can be embedded within a sequence of lessons
- Identify opportunities for continuous provision within a book-based approach
Participants will receive –
- Twelve high quality children’s books
- Twelve detailed planning sequences that support the teaching of purposeful writing
- A Literacy Tree tote bag containing all resources and books
- All training resources electronically
- Lunch and refreshments
Day 1 content
- Identify the 'Teach through a Text' pedagogy and the rationale for this approach
- Familiarisation with end of year group objectives and key assessment foci
- An in-depth look at one text and a sequence of work and a walk through three further sequences
- A talk from a school leader who has successfully implemented this approach
Day 2 content
- Author visit (name is yet to be confirmed)
- Focus on personalisation and differentiation
- An in-depth look at one text and a sequence of work and a walk through three further sequences (different to day 1)
Day 3 content
- Focus on the importance of audience and purpose with a view to looking at the importance of publishing and book-making
- Celebration of the course - evaluate the year and identify progress.
- An in-depth look at 2 books and the planning sequences, but participants will receive 4 books to take home.
