This is a 10 session Literary Leaf for Overheard in a Towerblock in which children begin by identifying some of the poetic and figurative language before picking apart themes and retrieving. Through the poems the children will be introduced to the skill of summarising and will look at words in context to identify meanings in detail.
We chose this book for a literary leaf as it's a powerful collection of poems threaded together through the environmental context presented. The themes presented within are subtle, powerful and moving and as acollection provide an astonishing yet very real narrative about life in the city.
